সাধারণত অবাস্তব শর্ত বোঝাতে 3rd conditional ব্যবহৃত হয়। এক্ষেত্রে If যুক্ত clause - টি past perfect tense - এ হয় আর result clause - টিতে sub + would have / could have/ might have + verb 4 past participle form বসে। সুতরাং শূন্যস্থানে could have been এবং had allowed বসবে।

অধিকাংশ প্রতিযোগিতামূলক পরীক্ষায় Sentence completion (বাক্য সমাপ্তি) প্রায়ই থাকে। প্রশ্ন-বাক্যে এক বা একাধিক শূন্যস্থান থাকে, অপশনে থাকা শব্দ বা শব্দভাণ্ডার ব্যবহার করে তা পূরণ করতে হবে। প্রশ্নের অপশনে থাকা শব্দভান্ডার এবং শব্দগুলির মধ্যে সূক্ষ্ম পার্থক্য বিদ্যমান থাকে। এই শব্দগুলো থেকে বাক্যের সাথে সংগতিপূর্ণ ও উপযুক্ত শব্দ বা শব্দভান্ডার পছন্দ করে বাক্যপূর্ণ করতে হয়।
